PURPOSE: A device and a method for controlling gearshift of a belt type stepless transmission for a car are provided to improve response of a transmission rate change before the car is stopped by a brake operation. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling gearshift of a belt type stepless transmission for a car includes a car driving detecting part(100), a gearshift controlling part(200), and a driving part(300). The car driving detecting part detects a car driving condition variably output according to a driving condition of the car. The gearshift controlling part outputs control signal to the car driving detecting part to receive a signal detected by the car driving detecting part, receives a gearshift mode state of the car, a throttle valve opening level, rotational frequency of an output shaft, engine rotational frequency, oil temperature and acceleration pedal operation states, compares a target gear rate and the present gear rate when a gearshift control condition is satisfied before the car is stopped, performs a feedback control by correcting duty if the target gear rate is lower than the present gear rate, and terminates the gearshift control if the gearshift during the feedback control is finished. The driving part controls oil pressure supplied from an oil pump to a driving pulley and a slave pulley by the transmission control duty signal, and performs gearshift.
