PURPOSE: A method for controlling gearshift of an automatic transmission for an automobile is provided to prevent a sense of incongruity due to slip of the automobile to the rear, to prevent unnecessary slip of a clutch, and to prevent deterioration of durability of the clutch. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling gearshift of an automatic transmission for an automobile includes the steps of comparing and determining whether or not a neutralization condition of a transmission stage is satisfied when the automobile is stopped on a hill road, outputting transmission stage neutralization control duty signal, determining whether or not a transmission stage neutralization cancellation condition is satisfied when the automobile is stopped on the hill road, outputting transmission stage neutralization cancellation duty signal, computing a change rate of a turbine for an hour, determining whether or not the computed turbine change rate satisfies a transmission stage neutralization control prohibiting condition, and prohibiting the transmission stage neutralization control until a second condition is satisfied.
