PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speed up the quantizing of a digital signal such as a digital audio signal and to make it efficient. SOLUTION: A normalization coefficient deciding circuit 10 refers to a range table 4 where retrieval orders are stored in the order of generation frequency in addition to a coefficient table 5 and decides a normalization coefficient fitted to an input signal. For deciding the normalization coefficient, a section to which the absolute value of the input signal belongs is retrieved. The retrieval order is stored in the range table 4 in accordance with the generation frequency of the absolute value of the input signal. Thus, a normalization can be speeded up by performing retrieval in the retrieval order. |
