Production of the combined direct manufacture of highly active electrodes uses a carbon carrier. Preferred Features: The process is carried out in a plasma- and ion-promoted vacuum. The carbon is produced on the electrode membrane surface by fragmenting a hydrocarbon in the plasma or by using a hot filament. The hydrocarbons are ethyne, ethene, methane, benzene, cyclopentadiene or other non-cyclic and cyclic hydrocarbons. The electrolyte membrane lies at a potential of 0 to -100 V relative to the chamber wall during the carbon deposition. The carbon layer is 2 nm to 20 microns m thick with a porosity of 0.5 nm to 10 microns m thick. An electroactive catalyst is simultaneously deposited with the carbon. The catalyst is made from platinum, iridium, ruthenium, silver, gold, molybdenum, tungsten, nickel, cobalt or rare earth. |
