A polyamide characterized by being obtained by thermally condensation-polymerizing (a) a dicarboxylic acid ingredient containing 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid having a trans/cis molar ratio of from 50/50 to 97/3 in an amount of 10 to 80 mol% based on the whole carboxylic acid ingredient with (b) an aliphatic diamine ingredient. The alicyclic polyamide, in which the skeleton contains dicarboxylic acid units derived from 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, has excellent heat resistance and reduced water absorption, is excellent in light resistance, moldability, and lightweight property and in toughness, chemical resistance, and appearance, and is suitable for use as a material for various parts for motor vehicles, electrical/electronic appliances, industrial materials, daily household articles, etc. Also provided is a molded article of the polyamide.
