A fill tool (18) for directing bone replacement material (26) into an expandable bag within a reamed out disc includes a deflector (24) at its distal end which deflects the flow of such material to a one or more side openings (30, 32) at the distal end of the fill tool (18). This allows the tool to be used without being ejected when filling the bag under pressure an d greatly increases the distraction forces possible when filling the bag.
