The system (10) for converting organic waste reservoirs into anaerobic digesters comprises an inflatable roof structure (12) adapted to be installed on a variety of reservoirs (14) to seal them from the atmosphere. The roof structure (12) includes an inner gas-impermeable membrane (26) which is adapted to raise and lower with the level of organic waste contained in the reservoir (14). A peripheral fold (36) is defined in the gas-impermeable membrane (26) adjacent the inner surface (30) of the surrounding wall (16) of the reservoir (14) to form a downwardly depending skirt which acts as a gas barrier to prevent gas leakage along the inner surface (30) of the reservoir (14). A gas removal unit (48) is also provided for removing biogas trapped beneath the gas-impermeable membrane (26) from the reservoir (14). |
