PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a press by control property of an electric motor by compounding the electric motor and a hydraulic pump/motor at the dimension of torque, and carry out regeneration upon control of kinetic energy which the slide possesses without constraint of pressing force of the slide and an energy quantity. SOLUTION: A screw press 100 drives a slide 102 by a screw mechanism composed of a driving nut 104 and a driven screw 106. The driving nut 104 is provided with a ring gear integrally, and with the ring gear 114, a gear 120 disposed on a driving shaft of the electric motor SM is engaged and a gear 122 disposed on a driving shaft of the hydraulic pump/motor P/M1 is engaged. And to the hydraulic pump/motor P/M1, a fixed high pressure source generating a pressurized oil of approximately fixed pressure and a low pressure source are connected. In this way, the electric motor SM and the hydraulic pump/motor P/M1 can be compounded at the dimension of torque.
