PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable probing apparatus by which a cable as a target can be probed easily and precisely from among a plurality of cable groups to be laid in a wiring passage. SOLUTION: The detecting probes 16, 18 of a receiver 20 are brought into contact with different cables 12, 26, the strength difference and the phase difference between two signals detected by the two detecting probes 16, 18 are discriminated by the receiver 20, and the cable 12 as the target is probed from among the cables 12, 26. Thereby, even when the cable 12 as the target to which a probing signal is applied is installed side by side with the cable 26 over a long distance, i.e., even when the probes 16, 18 are installed at a distance from a transmitter 14, the cable 12 as the target can be probed easily and surely.
