PURPOSE: A symmetrical DC/DC converter is provided to be capable of operating in a variable direction corresponding to an energy transfer direction at a step-up or a step-down ratio corresponding to an input/output voltage ratio. CONSTITUTION: The symmetrical DC/DC converter comprises an inductor(23), first and second switching portions(57,59) having one ends connected to one end of the inductor(23), third and fourth switching portions(61,63) having one ends connected to the other end of the inductor(23), first through fourth terminals(65,67,69,71) connected to the other ends of the first through the fourth switching portions(57,59,61,63), respectively. And a pair of capacitors(73) connected between the first and the second switching portions(57,59) and between the third and the fourth switching portions(69,71), respectively. The second and the fourth terminals(67,71) are connected to each other.
