PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide data transmission with high energy efficiency in xDSL. SOLUTION: Data are transmitted only in an FEXT block, where a transmission rate becomes high. By stopping the data transmission in a NEXT block, where the transmission rate frequently becomes low, energy efficiency is improved. Specifically in a dual bit map system, a bit map for NEXT is set so that the transmission rate can become '0'. Such setting is forcedly executed on the side of receiving to prepare the bit map. Otherwise, by intentionally transmitting abnormal data from the transmitting side in the case of initialization, such a bit map is prepared on the receiving side as a result. Further, while the transmission of data is stopped, by stopping a transmitting digital filter 113 and a transmitting analog filter 122 or the like of an xDSL modem 110, useless power consumption is suppressed.
