PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength selector, a converter and a photonic switching matrix incorporated with them. SOLUTION: The photonic switching matrix includes a demultiplexer having n-sets of outputs through which wavelength selectors and converters are connected to n-sets of inputs of couplers via n-sets of wavelength converters in order to increase a bit rate of wavelength division multiplexed optical data switched in the photonic switching matrix while maintaining a high bandwidth. Each wavelength converter has an optical gate function and selectively supplies converted signals carried by the same wavelength. The application scope of the photonic switching matrix includes optical packet switching.
