<p>This invention relates to NRP-derived peptides ueful for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as insulin-dependent diabetes melitus (IDDM). The treatment is based on avidity therapy: CD8+ T cells having a high avidity for NRP-derived peptides are deleted, CD8+ T cells bearing a lower avidity are expanded, thus eliminating T cells that are highly toxic to pancreatic beta cells. The principle of avidity therapy could be applied to other autoimmune diseases or cancer.</p> |
