In DC operation, the current from a collector (2') is fed to a traction DC voltage circuit (13) and then to a first part of a traction drive (15). A power system for a rail vehicle is also claimed. The direct current is also fed via an input power converter to a second part as an alternating current in a traction low-voltage winding (10) of a traction transformer (9). Current induced in an auxiliary low-voltage winding (11) is also fed to supply auxiliary equipment.
