Regeneration device for playback signals from magnetic recording medium

The partial response signal transmission with max. likelihood sequence detection regeneration device has a waveform equaliser (15) for equalising the waveform of the playback signal, a max. likelihood decoder (16), comparing the equalised signal with upper and lower levels and a microprocessor control circuit (19), for variable setting of the spacing between these levels. Pref. a memory (20) holds respective spacings for different magnetic heads, with read-out of the stored spacing in dependence on the selected head, for corresponding setting of the max. likelihood decoder.
