Device for transferring binary data between two participants (1-3) that can move relative to each other along a conducting line (10). Transmitted data (15, 16) from one participant is sent via an energy amplifying conductor coupling (7) onto the conducting line. The line is open at one end and the frequency of the signal is limited to a maximum reliable data transfer rate. The conducting line is formed as a short electrical conductor to limit the frequency content of the data.
