A seatbelt retractor system (see figure 10) comprises an electric retractor having a driving means, such as motor (10) , for retracting and protracting the seatbelt, a control means, a fault warning means and a current detecting means for measuring the current flowing to the retractor driving motor. The control means stops operation of the motor and gives a fault warning when the current flowing to the motor falls within a range given by predetermined upper and lower limits for longer that a predetermined time period. The current range is chosen to indicate a fault in the power transmission mechanism connected to the motor such that fault represents the current levels of the motor running idle for longer than a set period of time. |
