PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for ink jet recording whereby high-quality images can be recorded while a color irregularity to be generated in two-way recording is prevented and bleeding to be generated among specific colors in multipath recording is reduced. SOLUTION: A position of a discharge opening end of a second discharge opening array for discharging a color ink with respect to a first discharge opening array for discharging a black ink is separated by a length determined in accordance with the number of recording/scanning times (m) whereby an image is completed by the first discharge opening array, the number of recording/scanning times (n) whereby an image is completed by the second discharge opening array discharging the color ink, and a condition (a) whereby (m+a) becomes an even number. Recording time differences among colors are equalized by recording through two-way scanning.
