Disclosed are mild hair conditioning compositions such as cream rinse emulsions, that provide dry combing benefits and wet hair feel attributes such as ease of spreading and hair softness during rinsing, comprising by weight from about 0.5 % to about 5.0 %, of an amidoamine or mixture of amidoamines; from about 0.05 % to about 2.0 %, of a n acid or mixture of acids; from about 0.1 % to about 15.0 %, of a fatty compound selected from the group consisting of fatty alcohols, fatty acids, fatty alcohol derivatives, fatty acid derivatives, and mixtures thereof; and water; wherein the composition has certain parameters regarding pH and/or mole ratio of amidoamine to acid, and is substantially free of quaternary ammonium compounds.
