The feeding device comprises a fodder supply container and a dosing device (28) which is mounted in a gap (26) between the container (12) and trough (32). When the dosing device is operated a predetermined amount of food is moved from the supply container to the trough. The supply container can be tapered in its lower part to run out into a slit like gap where the dosing device is mounted. The dosing device can be a rotatable hollow roller.
