Apparatus for heat welding thermoplastic floor coverings using a cord (8) in a groove comprises an ultrasound generator (1) with a sonotrode (2). The tip (3) of this corresponds in shape to that of the cord and groove. A pressure tube (10) presses the cord into the groove and against the underside of the sonotrode tip so that the surface of the groove and underside of the cord are fused together.
