Producing oil and water from a reservoir

The system allows segregated production of fluids, e.g. water and oil, to control the fluid-fluid interface 32. Downhole sensors 36 are utilized in providing data about the location of the interface. This permits the proactive monitoring and control of the interface prior to unwanted intermingling of fluids, e.g. oil and water, during production. The sensors detect the location of the interface and the rate of production of the oil or the water, or both is controlled so that watercut does not occur with the consequent intermingling.
