An apparatus adapted to release toxic compounds from a medium present in one or more appliances (100). The apparatus comprises: a first chamber (10) for housing the or each appliance (100); agitating means adapted to separate the medium containing the toxic compounds from the or each appliance (100); and heating means for applying heat to the medium to release the toxic compounds.
