COMPOUND SEPARATED FROM BACILLARIOPHYCEAN, HAVING FREE RADICAL REMOVING FUNCTION AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PURPOSE: Provided is fucoxanthin separated from an extract extracted from Hantzschia marina as a bacillariophycean by using CH2Cl2-MeOH, which has an excellent free radical removing function. CONSTITUTION: The fucoxanthin represented by the formula (I) is separated by a process comprising the steps of: extracting the Hantzschia marina with CH2Cl2-MeOH and passing the extract through a silica gel column chromatography with an n-hexane-EtOAc solvent; passing an active fraction having a DPPH(1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) removing ability through the silica gel column chromatography with the n-hexane-EtOAc solvent; separating and refining the active fraction by using a reversed phase HPLC with a MeOH solvent. The fucoxanthin is an orange solid crystal and has the function for removing the DPPH or peroxynitrite or a nitric oxide radical.
