PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a space-saving paper feeder. SOLUTION: This paper feeder 10 is provided with a tray 8 attached to the lower part of an image formation device 20 and mounting a plurality of paper sheets 7, and a paper feeding part 100 having a separating roller 12 and a paper feeding roller 11 for feeding the paper sheets 7 from the tray 8 to the image formation device 20 one by one. The separating roller 12 and the paper feeding roller 11 are disposed between a drive source driving the separating roller 12 and the paper feeding roller 11, and a separating/approaching means provided in the opposite side of the drive source and comprising a connecting member 103 raising the separating roller 12 in such a state as separating from the paper sheets, a lever 104 for turning the connecting member 103, and a solenoid 106 turning the lever 103.
