A cover (30) for a circular clarifier (34), having a central column (36)and external wall (32), comprises a central ring plate (70) mounted on the column, a plurality of saddle brackets (68, Figure 3) mounted on the external wall, a support structure extending between the ring plate and the brackets and a flexible sheet (38) fixed to the support structure. Preferably the support structure comprises a plurality of ring trusses (64), arranged to define a circle concentric with the wall of the clarifier, a radial array of outer trusses (60), mounted at an outer end to the clarifier wall and at an inner end to the ring trusses, and a series of inner (62) trusses fixed between the outer trusses and the ring plate. In a further invention the clarifier cover is retractable and includes a number of sheet segments attached to triangular frame sectors, where at least one of the sheet segments has a retractable section (106) located near the base of a triangular frame sector.
