PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To largely reduce chlorine contained in a tantalum alkoxide without using the alkoxide of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal. SOLUTION: A method for purifying the tantalum alkoxide, characterized by treating the tantalum alkoxide containing chlorine element with an alkali metal hydroxide dissolved in an alcohol to reduce the chlorine element to <=10 ppm.
