PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device in which a hydrogen storage alloy is rapidly activate at a low coat. SOLUTION: A device for activating a hydrogen storage alloy which comprises a hydrogen recovery device 41 filled with the alloy, a hydrogen supplying device 42, vessels 10 and 20 holding a treated hydrogen storage alloy C that is activated, a heating device 31 and a cooling device 32 is characterized by having at least one of the first heat exchanging means in which the exothermic heat from the device 41 and the endothermic heat from the device 42 are exchanged mutually or the second means which is the mutual exchange of heat and coldness remaining at a switchover of heating and cooling the vessels 10 and 20. Namely, preparing the alloy to supply and recover hydrogen actualizes the supply and recovery hydrogen without depending on the state of the treated alloy and the first and second heat exchanging means can improve the heat utilization.
