PURPOSE: An upright vacuum cleaner is provided to restrain a stacking of a waste or dust into a suction passage by forming a through hole opened outward at one side of the suction passage and providing a waste collecting portion at a lower side of the through hole. CONSTITUTION: An upright vacuum cleaner comprises a body casing(11) placed vertically, a suction pump(31) for generating a suction force at an inner portion of the body casing, a filter casing(35) coupled detachably at an upper side of the body casing, a filter member(33) for blocking a waste absorbing into the suction pump(31), a suction head(21) placed at a lower portion of the body casing, a suction pipe(25) and a waste collecting vessel(41) for containing the waste therein. One end of the suction pipe(25) is connected at a suction port(22), and the other end is connected at the absorbing side of the filter casing. A through hole(27) is formed at the suction pipe(25), and the waste collecting vessel(41) is connected at an edge portion of the through hole(27) and contains the waste falling from the through hole.
