PURPOSE: An OSD(On-Screen Display) device and method are provided to substitute an existing mask ROM(Read-Only Memory) by increasing the memory unit of each OSD font and the output bit of a font flash ROM, to repeatedly record and read with the font flash ROM, and to reduce the reproduction cost of the mask ROM. CONSTITUTION: A CPU(Central Processing Unit)(104) performs the function of a control center. A storing medium(106) connected with the CPU stores many OSD addresses corresponding to many OSD fonts. A font flash ROM(108) connected with the CPU and the storing medium stores the OSD fonts. The OSD fonts are stored in many storing units in the reading clock. The storing medium corresponding to each OSD font is read simultaneously in the output clock, and is output synchronously through many output bits of the font flash ROM. A register(110) connected with the font flash ROM and the CPU converts the OSD fonts to a serial form from a parallel form. An output circuit(112) connected with the register mixes the properties of the OSD fonts, to form an OSD message, and transfers the OSD fonts. A display(114) connected with the output circuit displays the OSD message. |
