The assembly to feed a sliver to a sliver loosing roller at an open-end spinner, to break it down into separate fibers, has a controlled feed roller to give the sliver an advance and a reverse movement. The control (4) has a manual opening unit (6) to insert a new sliver. When the feed roller (2) is operated manually the sliver is moved to the loosening roller and then retracted from the roller by a given length. The sliver feed to the loosening roller, of an open-end spinner, has a sliver feed roller which advances the sliver on a manual operation and then retracts it when the manual action ends. The manual operating unit is a push key. The system has an emergency energy supply, to dive the components in the event of a power failure. If the power fails, the control reverses the sliver feed roller temporarily so that the sliver is retracted from the loosening roller by a given length. The control has a delay unit to delay the reverse rotation action for a time span which is longer than the break in the power supply. The emergency power supply is a machine generator with a coupled flywheel or accumulator.
