The separator comprises a first branch line (32) for receiving a vapor portion and a second branch line (34) for receiving a liquid portion. The first branch line has a direction component directed vertically upward and the second branch line has a direction component directed vertically downward. A recycling line is connected to the second branch line in the flow direction. The device also includes a recirculation pump which can be controlled depending on the filling level of the recycling line.
