The invention relates to a method and a device for pressing items of clothing, using a pressing form, which comprises an inflatable pouch. At least one tensioning device is positioned inside the inflatable pouch, lying transversally in relation to the longitudinal axis of said pouch. The tensioning device acts on the inflatable pouch on the plane of said tensioning device, thus allowing the cross-section of this plane to be adjusted. The tensioning device generates a tension, which is peripherally uniform, on the surface of the inflatable pouch.
