Mass air flow sensor (MAFS), especially for automotive applications, has a sensor operating according to hot-wire principles where the airflow is related to the heating current required to maintain a constant wire temperature. The sensor comprises a housing (14) a sensor support element (16) and a surface mounted sensor element, so that air flow disturbance is minimized. An Independent claim is made for a MAFS device with a sensor support element and two air flow controllers arranged in the vicinity of the support element to control the air flow over the sensor.
