Mill annealed process to manufacture stainless steel yarn brake as a truncated cone

A speed limiting strip for a yarn brake assembly consists of a precipitation-hardened stainless steel endless belt (S). The yarn brake is manufactured from a sheet of stainless steel Also claimed is a process to manufacture the brake strip from a blank die-cut from a sheet of stainless steel (S) and then cold deep-drawn before subjecting to precipitation hardening. Hardening is undertaken in a three-stage process of austenite conditioning, austenite/martensite transformation and precipitation hardening. In the hardening process the metal is heated to pref. 955C for 10 minutes and then allowed to cool to room temperature. It is then cooled within one hour to -73C and maintained at this temperature for 8 hours prior to heating to room temperature. Finally, the metal is heated to 510C and maintained at this temperature for 90 minutes and then cooled to room temperature. In final condition the strip is pref. 0.05 to o.3 mm thick.
