<p>A honeycomb structure which comprises a silicon carbide based porous material and has a number of flow-through holes which are divided by partition walls and pass through in the axis direction, wherein said silicon carbide based porous material has a strength and a Young's modulus satisfy the relationship: strength (MPa)/ Young's modulus (GPa) = 1.1. The honeycomb structure can be manufactured at a low cost at a relatively low firing temperature although it contains refractory particles such as silicon carbide particles, has a high strength and high thermal shock resistance, and thus can be suitably used under a high SV condition as a filter for clarification of an exhaust gas from an automobile, or as a catalyst carrier and the like, after it is subjected to further processing such as sealing.</p> |
