The invention relates to a method for inputting a sequence of characters into a computer, according to which a character to be input is selected from selectable characters in a two-dimensional character array. The input of the user is intuitively detected, thereby allowing for a simple means of navigation by means of a direction input device between the selectable characters in the reduced, two-dimensional character array.
