The standard reinforcing elements used in a seatback are made of metal, adding substantial weight to the shell. The new design comprises several strong parallel positioned vertical straps (10) attached to the rear surface (9) of the back part, their number, dimensions and arrangement depending on the potential forces acting on them. The straps (10) can be sewn, integrated in the shell (6) by molding, or removable and exchangeable joined (12, 15) to the shell (6).
