PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition suitable especially as a tread rubber, etc., of a pneumatic tire for heavy loads by improving abrasion resistance, destruction resistance and low heat buildup performances and the pneumatic tire for the heavy loads using the composition as the tread rubber. SOLUTION: This rubber composition is characterized by compounding (A) a rubber component composed of (a) 15-55 wt.% of a modified styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber prepared by solution polymerization and having at least one tin atom in the molecule and (b) 45-85 wt.% of a natural rubber and/or a synthetic isoprene rubber with (B) a hydrazide compound. The pneumatic tire for the heavy loads uses the composition as the tread rubber.
