PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an off-axis chart image searching method preventing a disappearance phenomenon of an off-axis image in a CCD camera as a photographing means and facilitating a search of the off-axis chart image by a worker for speeding up descriptiveness evaluation. SOLUTION: In this off-axis chart image searching method, an image of a luminous flux of the off-axis chart in descriptiveness evaluation chart 2 on a chart plate 1 is formed on a focal point face of a lens 3 through the lens 3, the formed off-axis image is taken in by means of the CCD camera 4 and an image processing personal computer 5, a deflection quantity to an optical reference position is found, and taking the deflection into consideration, the CCD camera 4 is moved to search the off-axis image based on the off-axis chart arranged around the off-axis chart.
