PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To charge a user for an amount of toner used in a printer. SOLUTION: A cartridge 208 has a CRG memory 230 for storing a pixel count which is read and written by a control section via a memory RW unit 231. In an electrophotographic printer, the number of times and a length of time are counted by a counter each time a laser beam is emitted, and are added to the pixel count. After the cartridge is recovered, the pixel counter is read.
