PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal cell and a method for manufacturing the cell excellent in the viewing angle dependence and stability in the twisting operation of liquid crystal molecules. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal cell, a liquid crystal composition containing a nematic liquid crystal 10 having negative dielectric anisotropy, a surface modifying agent having the perpendicular alignment effect and a chiral substance is sealed between a pair of substrates 13 having an alignment layer 11 face and transparent electrodes 12. Further, an acrylic resin then film 20 is formed on the alignment layer.
