PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce colliding noises at a contact section between an opener, which can be attached to a general purpose horizontal shuttle of a sewing machine, and rotates a shuttle body in the opposite direction from the rotating direction of a rotating hook, and the shuttle body, and also, between the an engaging protuberance of the shuttle body and a fastening member of a throat plate. SOLUTION: This horizontal shuttle is supported by a hook saddle comprising the rotating hook and the shuttle body. In this case, the rotating hook rotates around a hook shaft while synchronizing with the vertically moving motion of a sewing machine needle. The shuttle body is rotatably supported by the rotating hook. At the same time, on the outer periphery of the shuttle body, the engaging protuberance which engages with an engaging member of the throat plate, and the contact section are formed. In such a horizontal shuttle, a cam shaft, L-shaped opener links A1 and A2, a roller, an opener link, an opener, and a connecting link are provided. In this case, the cam shaft on which a cam is fixed is rotatably supported by the hook saddle, and rotates while synchronizing with the hook shaft. The central sections of the L-shaped opener links A1 and A2 are turnably supported by the hook saddle. The roller is supported by the distal end of the opener link A1, and is provided at a location being confronted with the cam. The base section of the opener link is rotatably supported by the hook saddle. The base section of the opener is supported by the distal end of the opener link, and the distal end section extends in a manner to be confronted with the contact section of the shuttle body. The connecting link connects the distal end of the opener link A2 and the distal end of the opener link.
