PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reclining range adjuster for the backrest of a chair which is simplified in structure so as to be reduced in size and weight, and manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The front end parts of back bars 6 to support the backrest are pivotally supported on a support base 4 to support the seat. An arm 38 to integrally rotate with the back bars 6 is equipped in the support base 4. A first regulating member 42 to regulate the rotation range in one direction of the tip end part of the arm 38 and a second regulating member 44 to regulate the rotation range in the reverse direction are equipped so as to be independently moved sideward by operating first and second operation levers 60, 61. Almost wedge shape abutting members 49, 66 made so as to decrease the rotation range of the arm 38 by gradually increasing the projection of the tip end of the arm 38 into the rotation locus by being moved to one side are equipped on the regulating members 42, 44.
