In order to control the conditions for auto-ignition, the system controls the effective volumetric ratio, the mass of air admitted, the temperature of the mass of air admitted, the composition of the fuel-air mixture, and the composition of the exhaust gases. The effective volumetric ratio is controlled by a choice of distribution angles at admission in order to obtain a Miller effect. The effective volumetric ratio is controlled by a choice of distribution angles at admission in order to obtain a Miller effect. The mass of air admitted is controlled by adjusting the pressure using a motorized valve, taking account of the distribution angles at admission, and the amplitude of the opening of the inlet valve(s). An Independent claim is also included for the system for controlling engine operating by auto-ignition technique.
