PURPOSE: An automatic database update system is provided to automatically update a database stored at a computer connected over an online network without a management of a user or irrespective of formatting or reinstalling a hard disk in the computer. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a network interface(100), a network device driver(200), a query module(300), a comparison module(400), an update module(500), and a database(600). The network interface(100), embedded in or connected to a client computer, transmits or receives packets according to a request of a user. The network interface device driver(200) enables an operating system to recognize the network interface(100) when the client computer is bootstrapped. The query module(300), embedded in or connected to the network device driver(200), generates a packet for comparing a version of a database, stored at the client computer, with that stored at a server, and transmits the database version comparison packet to the network device driver(200). The comparison module(400), installed at the server, compares the version of the database of the client computer, included in the transmitted packet, with that of the server, and offers the comparison result to the client computer. The update module(500), embedded in or connected to the network device driver(200), updates the database at the client computer according to the comparison result. The database(600) is maintained to be identical to the database of the server.
