PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set or vary longitudinal and horizontal detection areas about an automatic sliding door and to make it easy to align the detecting direction of a distance sensor with the direction to approach the sliding door. SOLUTION: A sensor unit 1 for the automatic sliding door is installed in a door frame 4. A remote control signal A from a remote control signal transmitting portion 5 is transmitted to a remote control signal receiving portion 6 upon detection of a human body to actuate the automatic sliding door 7 for opening. A housing 9 comprises a body 10 fixed to the door frame 4 and an outer cover 11 removably mounted over the body 10. The body 10 is provided with a rotating support mechanism 13 for supporting the distance sensor 3 in a manner enabling the sensor to rotate about a vertical axis M perpendicular to the wall surface of the door frame 4 and about a horizontal axis N parallel to the wall surface of the door frame 4.
