PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a liquid crystal display device in which the driving voltage of a liquid crystal panel is adjusted to be at an appropriate level without requiring cumbersome operations even though environmental temperature is varied and dispersion in the production of the panel occurs. SOLUTION: Two pairs of electrode pairs 11a, 11b are provided in a non- display area A2 of a liquid crystal panel 2 sandwitching liquid crystal layer respectively. On and off voltage rectangular wave generating circuits 13a, 13b apply on and off voltage rectangular waves Sdaon/Sdaoff having the levels specified by a control section 14 to the respective pairs 11a, 11b. The section 14 evaluates the capacitance ratio of the capacitances of the pairs 11a, 11b. The level specification and the capacitance ratio evaluation are repeated until a level, at which the ratio becomes a maximum, is found. The section 14 adjusts the level of the driving voltage so that the effective voltage same as the waves Sdaon/Sdaoff having a found level is applied during on and off display intervals.
