PURPOSE: A method for selectively assigning a right to use of song data is provided to enable users to play only desiring songs in songs included in a karaoke system, and to enable karaoke system providers to generate authentication keys on the request of users. CONSTITUTION: Many songs are encoded and stored in a memory of a karaoke system(2) playing stored songs. A user(4) of the karaoke system provides a guide(6) with numbers of songs for playing and an inherent number of the karaoke system, The guide inputs the song numbers and inherent number to an authentication key generator(8). The authentication key generator generates an authentication key. The authentication key is supplied from the guide and inputted to the karaoke system. The karaoke system decodes the authentication key, and stores the song numbers included in the authentication key. And the user plays the songs corresponding to the stored song numbers.
