The internal combustion engine is a direct injection engine with an intake (1a,b) having two ducts each connected to at least one cylinder. One duct is connected to an exhaust gas return valve (10) and the other duct is for intake of fresh air. Both intake pipes each have a throttle (15,18). The sizes of the intake pipes can be mutually independent.
